DissertationIntegrative Bioinformatics Approaches for Bacterial Species Delineation Using Genomic and Proteomic Data
Jihyeon trained in life sciences at Ewha Womans University and earned her Ph.D. in bioinformatics at Seoul National University, where her doctoral research combined genomic and proteomic data to tell bacterial species apart.
She developed an up-to-date set of bacterial core genes and an open analysis pipeline for reconstructing the evolutionary relationships between bacteria from their genomes. Today it is widely used by microbiologists around the world in microbial analysis research.
After her Ph.D., she worked as a consultant to the pharmaceutical and biotech industry on IP-R&D strategy and commercialization, seeing first-hand how good science becomes real-world value.
